In my short life on this earth with no one to guide me on most topics, I have had to guide myself through most things and learn what works basically by trial and error. I don't want this to be another person's story therefore I am glad to share with you 10 of the most important feminine hygiene tips for all ladies.
1. Shaving
There is no way you can avoid this you just have to shave both down there and your armpits. If you use a blade(shaving bic) you may get after-shave bumps, one solution is to try shaving in one direction or better still, switch to any hair removal cream of your choice such as Nair which is especially good for sensitive skin. Also, avoid spraying perfume directly on the area you just shaved.
If you get dark armpits you could try mixing turmeric powder with water to form a paste and applying on the skin. Being a natural plant, it could also be applied on the skin directly below your belly as it has anti-fungal properties and is also very good for skin lightening.
A word:
It is advisable to shave regularly but if you tend to forget, you use your monthly period as a reminder and do so before or after it comes.
2. Periods
During periods, some of us just can't get any nap despite how tired we may be because of how much our stomach hurts you may call it cramps but I call it grumpy. I was the type of girl who had regular visits from grumpy until I discovered these secrets;
Firstly I was following a weight loss program and I had to reduce my sugar intake drastically I wasn’t happy about it but then I wanted to lose weight so I was struggling to follow this diet and two weeks in, my period came, and I was thinking oh no grumpy I was about to follow my usual routine of laying in bed and watching movies while waiting but guess what!! Grumpy wasn’t so grumpy this time and the pain was more bearable.
Shocked to the core, I started reflecting on what I had eaten for the past weeks then it hit me, it’s the SUGAR!! So I continued the diet for the next month and I felt even better. Now that I am in shape, I don’t follow the diet strictly and I still have my cupcakes and sugary drinks occasionally, but I avoid them a few days before and during my period.
Secondly, I give myself baby treatment, I drink a cup of warm water in the morning especially when it is cold and it helps ease the blood flow that is, it comes out light and not as thick as a blood clot thus causing less pain. Sometimes I put some warm water in a plastic bottle and apply it on my stomach I don't know how this works but it does.
Next, I do my best to change my pads regularly at least twice a day, and also avoid wearing bright colors especially white, you could go more on the darker side something like black or blue-black could really hide any stains.
3. Your palace
Are you getting ready for a spectacular night, well your lingerie is set, and you handle the meal and all but what about your palace? I mean the palace that females have that is different from the males, palace that your father stepped into before they made you, I mean the palace .… you know what I'll just say it, it is called the vagina. It is a very delicate part of the body so or needs extra care. How? Your underwear, steep the new ones in warm water before you start wearing and rinse them in water regularly, especially when they start getting colors or when healing from an infection.
Also, ensure that the colors and scents of your discharge ( viginal fluids) are all right. Viginal secretions are usually white or cream. The scent should be nothing extra just regular, but if you notice a strong bad smell then check it out. If you want a sweet smell then you don't have to spray any perfume on your cookie, for it would cause more harm and no good instead, you have to get a fruity diet, Pineapples work best for me also drink lots of water. Or simply wear clean underwear preferably white. You could also wipe immediately after you urinate.
There are regular days(after 6 months) when you just want to cleanse yourself up it is on those days when I usually put warm water and a little white vinegar or salt in a bucket and sit on it. Take note I sit on the bucket so that only the vapour touches my skin.
4. Nails
I don't know how much I can emphasize that hygiene starts from head to toe and toenails. You may think we don't see them, but believe me, when I say we do, we see them clearly and it hurts my pride as a lady who cares. You don't necessarily have to cover your toes with artificial nails, simply cleaning them with a scrub and some soap will do and if you want to go the extra mile and get bonus points you could use this old-fashioned remedy of mine.
2 large cups of not very hot water, 1 tsp vinegar, and 1 or 1/2 tsp baking soda. You can vary the proportions and choose lemon over vinegar because it is just for fragrance. After putting your legs in this for a while, (until the water gets cold) you may scrub, trim, and oil as usual. Coconut oil is my preference.
